The 411 on Recycling
06.28.08 (8:02 pm) [edit]My poor old blender finally broke. The plastic cup on it is cracked beyond repair. I guess it was going to go sometime. I had bought it about a year ago at a garage sale for around $2 and it never really worked spectacularly anyway. It made decent salsa and smoothies. That's all I needed it to do. But now it's gone to blender heaven. What to do with it now?
I had read an article on recycling odd items not too long ago. I went looking for the article after spying the blender carcass collecting dust on a shelf earlier today. I thought I'd share the article with the blog-o-sphere.
Recycling OdditiesAccording the article Best Buy will recycle appliances. I think I'll give them a call tomorrow.
The article also mentions a site that can link you up to places that will take your recyclables locally. You just type in what you're wanting to recycle and your either your city and state or your area code.
I've noticed that not too many people I am aquainted with know much about recycling. I recycle and some people get the idea that I'm some fanatical liberal because I recycle. I suppose that does kind of make me liberal thinking, but that in NO WAY states that I am politically liberal. (I consider myself a political independent, thank you.) My family recycled when I was a kid, although we didn't as I grew up because we moved a lot and didn't always find the local recycling joint. I started recycling myself when I moved out on my own about a year ago. I was rather struck that the two girls that I lived with last fall who were so terribly concerned about the environment in other ways didn't recycle, even when I offered to take theirs out with my bin. I gather from my travels and reading that Europeans recycle quite a bit. I heard on the news the other day that other countries are buying American trash for the recyclables there in so they can re-use our waste. Why can't Americans just recycle it for themselves and use it at home? I think all this is related to a lack of recycling education. I remember doing a unit in elementary school on saving the rainforest, but not on recycling. I remember hearing that you should recycle, but never what and how you recycle. So anyway, here's a few links that may help with that. Educate yourself!
