Mamas and Babies Need Prayer

12.22.06 (11:45 pm)   [edit]

I've 2 stories to tell and prayers to ask.

The first is for family members. A not too terribly distant relation who isn't much older than I has retreated to a women's shelter with her 2 children following her husband injuring their baby daughter. I hear they're adjusting well, but no one truly adjusts to an abusive husband/father.

Second, a friend had her baby yesterday, which is joyous but she wasn't due until February. My friend's liver wasn't working properly, putting herself and baby Paisley in danger, so the doctors took the baby out of that danger equation in hope she'll be alright as a premi. I hear mom and baby are doing well. Mom is expected to be released from the hospital in 4-5 days and Paisley in about 6 weeks.

Remember all these moms and tots in your prayers if you will. Thanks!

Oh my goodness, they will definitely be in my prayers.

You know, they can do so much now for premature babies. My niece (who is now 3 weeks old) was born 6 weeks early. She is doing just fine. I know that's not nearly as early as your friend's baby, but I certainly hope little Paisley will do just as well.

It tugs at my heart so much to hear of mommies and babies in trouble. Please keep us updated.

Katie

I certainly pray all works out well for all of them, except for the abusive jerk. May fire ants infest his crotch for eternity.

Count on my prayers also.

I can't help but consider this little premie will be in the hospital for 6 weeks, running up a medical bill probably in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. I hope the family has good health insurance. And I wonder if they did not have health insurance, if the hospital and doctor would make the same decision? I'm probably deliberating too much, but it's an interesting question.

I will and here's an update: mom and premi baby, Paisley are doing fine, although mom took a bad turn on Friday and Saturday, but doing much better now. She got to see Paisley for the first time yesterday and is now able to feed her. Should be home soon! :-)

My family and I have been wondering that also. Mom has been employed at the local prison, so I would think she would have some sort of health care benefits. Who knows though. I sure hope she does, because Paisley will be needing lots of care and attention at least for those 6 weeks, if not longer.
