An Untitled Melancholy Poem

10.27.08 (12:31 am)   [edit]

(Untitled, so far)

Can't see the future.

Won't turn from the past.

Present collides with future

Oh so fast.

Cannot hear my despairing screams

Amidst the tumbling sea.

All around life goes on

According to God's decree.

Will I forever be stuck

In this guilt ridden pit?

Or is that perhaps a candle far off

For me being lit?

Give me the strength, oh God,

To follow Your flickering light

Out of this Hell hole I've created,

Into Your love burning bright.

The past was attacking me again. Above is the poem that came out of it. Every time that monster comes up, I think I've finally made my peace with him, but it always comes back. This time it was a t.v. show which featured people doing what I felt -- and apparently still do-- feel like I failed at. I strongly believe that the way things have turned out are God's will and for His glory, but it's hard to let go of crushed dreams even in the face of God's reality... even one that is as awesome as the one God has so graciously bestowed on me, a true wretch.

All She Wrote

Update:

-- I am scared to open my mailbox these days. I'm afraid I'll find within my hopes and dreams splattered on the almuninum walls in the form of a letter declining my admittance to physical therapy school.

-- I need a break. It's getting to where I can't even articulate my own thoughts very well.

-- I need a new adventure in life. I'm tired of going to the same boring classes everyday.

-- I want to keep improving my tennis skills during this off-season but it is very difficult when no one wants to cooperate with you.

-- I still can't stand it when people waste my time for their own convenience.

-- I miss some friends that are no longer around very much. I wish that either they'd come back, I could go to them or that I could make some more friends sooner rather than later. I find myself listening to Skillet's "Those Nights" quite frequently with fond memories floating through my mind and a tear coursing down my check.

-- Is Christmas here yet? I'm going skiing with some friends for Christmas in Breckinridge. :-D I've never been skiing before.

-- It's starting to cool off. I can't decide if I like it or not. Not that my liking or disliking it would change anything.

-- I think Greg and I have finally found a church to call home. I can't wait to go next Sunday.

-- That's all she wrote.

"Someone" for President 08-- Info for the Common Citizen

10.12.08 (10:12 am)   [edit]

It's true. I've decided to cast my lot with ol' Nader this election. I decided on him because his stance on the issues I care about most are most in-line with my own views in contrast with the other candidates. I think that's a pretty good reason to vote for a particular person.

I have heard a lot of people say this election that they don't like either of the main party Presidential candidates and so are voting for the one they believe is the lesser of the two evils. Why? Why not vote for someone else? The media has basically shut out the fact that there are quite a few other candidates for this election year, leaving the basic citizen believing they have no choice but the two main party candidates. THERE ARE OTHER CANDIDATES! That's my message today. If, like me, you are not satisfied with the main party candidates or even if you are sure of your choice, I encourage you to examine the choices. By examining all the choices carefully, you can be sure you are making the right choice for yourself and our nation. What I did was look up the election on Wikipedia so I could avoid all the advertisement non-sense to see just who the official-- and a few unofficial-- options are. Click here to go to that page. I'm sure there are probably more and better pages than tried and "true" Wikipedia, but hey, it got me what I wanted-- links to the official campaign pages of all the candidates that have one. There are some interesting folks on there, check them out for the funny factor at least! My favorite was the Prohibition candidate. He's hilarious!

Here comes point number two of this post: just go vote. I really don't care who you're voting for personally, just go vote for someone. Educate yourself with the information I've given you above and anything else you might find and go vote. The U.S. has the lowest voter turn out of any democratic country. How sad that a minority-- mostly old retired people in my town-- are deciding the direction of one of the major world powers. Other people live here too! (Like we young voters--*hint hint, nudge nudge* to the younger voters out there.)

I know a lot of the reason the young voters don't vote is because they are away at college and not near their appointed voting spot. Click here and follow the directions to obtain the absentee ballot for your area. There's still plenty of time to get one of those mailed to you and mail it back home before the election. It's a pain, yes, but please, exercise your citizen's right to a say in where this country goes.
