puppy woes, part 2

o yes, did i mention that my grandparents despise the puppy so much that they are considering moving out of the neighborhood so they don't have to deal with or see her ever again?

puppy woes

we have a puppy. great.... she's cute, and adorable but also enjoys activities such as destroying our garden by digging and eating our plants, eating our once near perfection st. augustine grass, and terrorizing our family by jumping on our legs, and biting whatever limb comes near nearly to pieces. (my grandma claims she stole one of her shoes, and knocked her over and wouldn't let her get up until my grandad came to rescue gradma from puppy, but grandma isn't the most reliable source anymore.) puppy-she has yet to be christened because daddy feels we won't take care of her right, and i'm beginning to agree- is a chocolate lab. she wound up in our yard because a neighbor found her in the alley we share, but couldn't keep puppy in his yard as his ancient schnauzer didn't take a liking to the rambunctious puppy that was nearly as large as himself, so puppy landed in our yard until an owner could be located, but as of now, no owner has come to claim her or inquire about the sign in the yard. so we have a puppy. great..... i've always wanted a chocolate lab actually. she's really smart; i taught her to sit in one afternoon, and knew how to fetch when she came to us, although i think most of that is instinct because labs were bred as retrievers. she just jumps and bites so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!! if anyone has ANY suggestions, i will most gladly try them out. i was looking at petsmart the other day, and they have some stuff you spray on plants to keep dogs from eating them; maybe that'd work on people too; she eats the plants and us too! they have a natural version, which i figure would be best for we bipeds, but like i said, that is only a theory, and more than likely a last resort. i got myself a book on training labs, and it recommended just leaving her alone and coming inside when she starts that nonsense; its kind of hard to train her other commands when i have to retreat inside every 5 minutes. i was thinking of enrolling her puppy kindergarten to learn basic commands, but then i realized she'd have to stop jumping and biting people in order for that to succeed, as the cheapest class in town is a group of people and other dogs. sometimes i just want to pick her up, look deep into her eyes, and say, "why won't you stop biting?!" of course she wouldn't answer, and i know why-because of the baby/adult teeth situation, and she's "excersing her jaw muscles" according to the book. why can't she excersise her muscles on the other toys she has instead of me! she has an old tennis ball, bones, a bit of foam that came from who-knows-where, not to mention her own tail! i did see her chew her own tail once. silly puppy. i once read that if you bop a dog on the nose, that it hurts them mildly enough for them to learn that the action is not a good idea. our puppy thinks our nose bop is a signal to play more! so she bites harder, and runs through our legs, and jumps higher, usually biting clothes too. not cool.

ok, i promise there is a reason i want to keep this dog and haven't booted her out the door yet. i want a running partner. which would require she be well behaved, which is why the biting and jumping must stop at all costs, and the reasoning behind command training. during the school year the only time i have to go running is at night after dark, and my dad won't let me run by myself after dark. i know he has my best interest at heart, and truthfully, it freaks me out too, but it is annoying being told to keep in shape but then not being able to. so i figure with a large dog i'd be less of target. i'd take a human pal, but let's face it, what college kid or anyone for that matter wants to go running? very few.

so any suggestions, comments, input of any kind would be greatly appreciated on this dilemma.

a few current adages

so ya, there's nothing new to report really. just the plain jane mundane.

my current adages:

some people will kill themselves before they quit, while others will would rather just be killed for lack of effort.

summer is a disaster for youth groups.

attitude makes all the difference.

adequate sleep helps alot too.

don't have a garage sale unless you're capable of putting in alot of hours, have a good back, and don't mind your yard being trampled.

college is friendly, yet unaccessable... hopefully not unatainable.

change is scary, but good for body, mind, and soul... usually.

it is absolutely necessary to take time to turn busy life off for just a few moments and chill out with yourself and God.

mood music can alter your mood in a snap.

caring for multiple exotic critters-rather animal, or plant- takes alot of research, time, and care. beware! althought when one succeeds, there is reason for celebration...much reason.

when people don't/won't plan time for you, you plan for them!

ok, i think that's about all. and so ends my list of adages that have resulted of annoyances that have crept up in my life as of late. i put them in adage form because i'm not one for complaining, only learning. :-D i fear i will be one of those people that will always have a thirst for knowledge that can never be quentched. society feeds off such people, and doesn't give much in return. then again, since when have i ever been that concerned with being repayed? anyway... i'm out. blessings upon you!
